There Is Help

There are many ways in which you can be assisted with parenting your child, whether alone or with the child’s father. Identifying what your needs may be, practically, and emotionally is the first step. It is important to understand the financial assistance for which you may be eligible, as well as other supportive services that may be available in your local area or else where. These could include ante natal classes, new mums’ support groups, pregnancy support services. The pregnancy support service closest to you will be able to put you in touch with your local support services.

But if you’re pregnant and thinking about abortion, there is a lot you need to consider.

1. Take some timeout and learn what abortion is really about. Read up on human development in the womb (for example Find out whether abortion is simply the removal of ’tissue’, or if it is a living human being. You owe it to yourself to take your time. Your decision will shape the rest of your life.

2. If you need help and someone to talk to, there are a number of pregnancy support centres which provide counselling, accommodation, baby equipment and a range of other practical support (see bottom of this page for some of the pregnancy support centres available in Australia).

3. Another alternative is adoption. If you’re not in position to care and provide for your child after birth, there are many loving families who can.Read Adoption in Australia and Adoption

4. Read the testimonies of other women who have had abortions. Hear what they have to say and learn from their painful experiences.

Of course, choosing to be a parent is a big decision and people often don’t feel fully prepared for it no matter how well timed the pregnancy is. But the rewards of parenting far outweigh the challenges. The reality is when a woman is pregnant she is carrying a child: her child. This child has a heart beat. And to stop this heart beat is to kill her child; a unique, never to be repeated, individual human being.
